The Rainy Season
As the colder weather approaches, it is so important to remember that our pups and cats still need their regular grooming. The need for coat maintenance doesn't stop just because the warm weather is gone! Even during the rainy, muddy seasons when it might feel like a lost cause, I promise you it is not. In fact, your long-coated dogs, Doodles, and Poodles need it during the winter season more than ever.
When a thick coat gets wet and isn't properly dried and brushed between regular grooming sessions, it can quickly lead to the start of painful matting. Additionally, mud buildup is tough on the skin; it needs to be thoroughly washed out, dried, and brushed. Dried mud can actually clog skin pores, cause dandruff, and dry out the coat, leaving your fur baby feeling itchy and uncomfortable.
One common thing I notice as a pet stylist during the changing of the seasons is dry skin. During these transitions, the question, "Why is my pet a little more itchy?" or "Why do they have dandruff?" pops up so much more often. The quick answer is that seasonal changes dry out all skin types including our own! Especially in the crisp Oregon weather. When you add in the rainy season where your pup gets to roll in the mud, that dirt drying on their skin just adds to the itchy flakiness.

This is exactly why we recommend keeping up with your 4-to-6-week appointments all year round to keep your pet as clean and healthy as possible. Personally, I completely understand if you don't want to travel in the cold rain to get your dog or cat groomed. That is exactly where Paws Gone Pretty comes in! By grooming right in the comfort of your home, we completely eliminate that wet, muddy walk from a salon back to your car.
